In 2016, filmmaker Quarxx was awarded the Court Métrange Grand Prix for his short film, entitled Un ciel bleu presque parfait. This year, he is back in Rennes with his first feature film, entitled Tous les dieux du ciel, adapted from the short version. A first in Rennes and a real festival-pleaser, this film lets outsiders into the strange and unusual world of a thirty-something named Simon, who works at a factory and lives like a hermit on a run-down farm. He’s a loner, caring for his sister, Estelle, whose severely disabled state is a permanent reminder of a childhood game gone awry. Despite his remorse and the aggressiveness of the outside world, Simon has kept locked up inside him the secret hope of saving his sister by freeing her from the oppression weighing her down on earth. And what if their salvation came from the heavens?

Whether we like it or not, we are chock full up to our necks in narratives of ill-boding speculation and ghouls that rule popular traditions from around the world. If ghosts are a timeless and inseparable entity with regards to literature, tales and legends, they are to be viewed the same with regards to film. Giving in to fear off screen, opting for shadows and apparitions, probing into the soul’s legacy… What symbols signify these specters? The questions abound, and the answers lie in wait. Following this brief screening will be a discussion.

This film-frenzied neighbor will be in Métrange mode come October. For the occasion, and for the entire month, the Chef will be flipping her phantomatically-supernatural burgers. Fear not, and consider yourself among those lucky enough to down one of them. So gosh darnit, grab the vacuum, down a whiskey, and come and dance the Carioca.
