Workshops Métrange Nomade

Young programmer’s Workshops

The Young Programmer's Workshop has the ambition to introduce young people to film programming through genre cinema and short films.
Based on a selection of different short films, young people will be able to create their own short film sessions. The workshop will alternate between screening sessions and discussions about the films during convivial moments. The participants will be able to discover the genre and the cinematographic forms in connection with the artistic policy of the Festival. They will also be introduced to film analysis and film vocabulary.

Initiation and discovery of a movie set Workshop

Following a screening of fantastic, strange and unusual short films, Métrange Nomade offers a "mini film set" workshop.
This workshop allows participants to live a filming experience in the light setting of a reconstructed film studio.
The participants will discover, under the attention of a film professional, the different jobs of the 7th art (director, cameraman, soundman, etc.). They will be introduced to the tools of the cinema and will discover from the inside the way a shooting takes place.

Introduction and discovery of audio description workshop

Conducted by Frédéric Gonant, these workshops aim to raise the non-disabled public awareness of audio description. They can be organized in different structures and especially in schools. A workshop that allows an immersion in the history and experience of audio description.

The script

The screenplay is an essential element in the construction of a film. It has a fundamental role in the narrative lines of a story that is put into images. What is a script ? How is it made ? How does the written word serve the image ?

By Hubert Blanchart, director, producer and teacher-researcher in cinema. He has directed several films for cinema and television.

How can the fantastic be the mirror of the real ?

The unexplainable provokes worries, the fear of lack of information and awakens the desire to master what surrounds us. This session presents the encounter with the Other, puts in tension our reality with its alternative version, at the same time too close to our daily life to be fictional and too far to be normal. Keep one foot on the side of reality and come put the second on to the other side of the border.

By Hubert Blanchart, director, producer and teacher-researcher in cinema. He has directed several films for cinema and television.

Fantastic creatures from literature to film

Fantastic creatures are numerous in cinema and in popular culture. From the vampire to the zombie, from Frankenstein's creature to the werewolf through the robot, their origins are often linked to literature. What are their different representations and what do they symbolize ?

By Antoine Mottier, editor, translator and specialist in fantasy literature (fantasy, SF).

The notion of animality

« There is no reign, neither of man or of beast, but only passages, furtive sovereignties, occasions, escapes, encounters. »
J.-C Bailly, The animal side, 2007

By Nathalie Georges of the non-profit Animal DEBOUT, a literary and graphic publishing house that explores the imaginary linked to the animal figure and the exchange of identities between man and beast.

The off-screen

What is off-screen ? How to define it ? What does it provoke ? How is it realized ? An omnipresent element in cinema, the principle of the off-screen builds the narrative lines of a story as well as the visual creation of cinema. How can we analyze what is not shown in the image but which paradoxically is a key element of cinema ?

By Hubert Blanchart, director, producer and teacher-researcher in cinema. He has directed several films for cinema and television.

The fantastic and the political

Politics is present in the course of our lives, in our rights and duties and throughout the society which we live. What happens if some individuals decide to no longer respect the rules that concern them ?
Hubert Blanchard proposes an analysis of this idea thanks to the distance that fantasy offers on our society.

By Hubert Blanchart, director, producer and teacher-researcher in cinema. He has directed several films for cinema and television.

The approach of the ghost figure in cinema

Whether we like it or not, we are imbued with tales of hauntings and ghosts that abound in popular traditions around the world. Hubert Blanchard proposes a meeting, a discussion and an analysis of this mythical figure in cinema. Indulging in the fear of the off-screen, preferring the blur and the apparition, exploring the survival of the soul, how does cinema invest the territory of the invisible and what are the symbols of the ghost ? So many questions that will be explored in this intervention.

By Hubert Blanchart, director, producer and teacher-researcher in cinema. He has directed several films for cinema and television.

Female characters

How does the fantastic short film stage female characters to create the main dramaturgical issues? These works of animation combine techniques and explore the elusive where the image of "woman" is questioned and discussed.
