En présence des réalisateurs.
French genre film may be slasher in spirit, yet is anything but slashed when it comes to its spectacular and long-standing reputation for mongrelizing the rhetoric of terror and incongruity with a socially-voluntary naturalism to which our fans have, fortunately for their sake, become accustomed and even hooked. In this film, Bustillo and Maury’s show of respect and admiration for a more radical filmgoing posture is downright blatant. Difficult to deny the similarities with Italian and American horror cinematographic codes and conventions. The duo takes things even further by drenching, if not drowning, its narrative in a well-anchored belief held sacred by genre aficionados, italicizing the presence of: evil ghosts, witchcraft, satanism, and sacrificed bodies, among others.
And to round out the decor, it all takes place submerged in water. Kicking off this water-full weekend is a dive into the depths of French genre film with The Deep House, an utterly manic urban exploration concept lodged in a sunken haunted house at the bottom of a lake. The Deep House, un concept fou d’urbex dans une maison hantée engloutie au fond d’un lac.
Following the screening will be an encounter with both filmmakers, Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, on the seanes behind (or rather beneath) this underwater shooting done without special effects six meters deep.
